Gráinne Murphy BA Hons

Gráinne is a botanical artist based in Wales. Originally from Dublin, she completed a BA Design in Visual Communications at Dublin Institute of Technology before moving to Machynlleth in 2009. She now resides in Tywyn.

She has a background in market gardening and community growing; co-founding a Veg Box scheme in Machynlleth and ‘Mach Maethlon’, an organisation based in the Dyfi Valley which creates vegetable and herb gardens in public spaces for the community to enjoy.

Botanical art was the perfect way to combine her love of art and gardening. Her journey started as a student on the London Art College ‘Botanical Painting’ course.  Thanks to the expert tuition and support received she hasn’t looked back since!

She holds a Certificate in Botanical Illustration, with distinction, as well as an Advanced Certificate in Botanical Illustration with distinction from the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh.

She teaches Botanical Art classes in Machynlleth.  A keen learner herself, she loves sharing knowledge with other creatives and plant enthusiasts.

Fascinated by all kinds of botanical subjects, she takes particular interest in emphasising the hidden beauty of edible plants.

Gráinne works in a variety of media, but her passion is for drawing; in graphite, pen and coloured pencil.
